Virginia Beach Democratic Committee Condemns Jen Kiggans Inability to

Disavow Hateful Rhetoric

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA — The Virginia Beach Democratic Committee strongly condemns the use of racially charged rhetoric directed at House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries and calls on Congresswoman Jen Kiggans to publicly denounce the comments made by Rich Herrera.

There is no place in our political discourse for language that invokes racial stereotypes,fuels division, or seeks to demean others based on identity. At a time when our communities are demanding thoughtful leadership and meaningful solutions, elected officials and political figures must be willing to stand firmly against rhetoric that undermines respect and unity.

Silence in the face of these comments sends the wrong message. It does not take much wisdom or effort to immediately call out an individual that uses that kind of language in reference to a Black man. It is at best disgracefully ignorant, and at worse, purposefully hateful.

The people of Virginia Beach and Hampton Roads deserve leaders who will reject divisiveness and uphold the values of dignity, accountability, and inclusion. Jen Kiggans has a responsibility to call this behavior out on behalf of her constituents and to not wait until she is called out for her own silence.
