Emancipation Jubilee Celebration

  • Coastal Virginia Unitarian Universalist Church 809 South Military Highway Virginia Beach, VA, 23464 United States (map)

Begin the new year by honoring history, culture, and collective progress at the Emancipation Jubilee Celebration on Thursday, January 1, 2026, at 3:00 PM.

Hosted by the NAACP, New Journal & Guide, Teens With A Purpose, and the African American Historical Society, this meaningful community gathering offers a unique opportunity to deepen our understanding of African American history and its lasting impact on Virginia Beach and our nation.

The program will feature Dr. Colita Nichols Fairfax, an engaging and respected scholar, who will uncover powerful historical and cultural insights that connect our past to the present—and help illuminate the path forward.

All are welcome.

This event is open to all and welcomes community members of every background who value history, learning, and shared reflection. Come listen, learn, and celebrate the enduring significance of emancipation and the ongoing work of justice and inclusion.
