This American holiday reminds us that when the shackles of slavery were lifted, the nation moved closer to its highest ideals. It was not the end of the journey, but a powerful beginning.

Today, we honor the progress made, reflect on the work that remains, and celebrate the enduring belief that America can always become more free, more just, and more united.
