Next Wave Mixer

On Saturday, September 6, 2025, the Virginia Beach Democratic Committee (VBDC), United Haitian American Alliance (UHAA), and Hampton Roads Young Democrats (HRYD) came together to host the Next Wave Mixer at Poolside Cooking Café—and what a gathering it was! A special thank you goes to Jemalyn Hewlett for welcoming us into her space and helping make the afternoon such a success.

The event opened with greetings and remarks from VBDC Chair Sean Monteiro, UHAA President Bridgge Orius, and HRYD President Ty Champion, who each underscored the importance of coalition building, community engagement, and the energy of the next generation of leaders. Their words set the tone for an afternoon of connection and inspiration.

The energy in the room was positive as change makers from every corner of our city met to connect, collaborate, and celebrate our shared progressive values. Attendees had the chance to:

  • Meet like-minded leaders and activists ready to make a difference.

  • Network with fellow progressives and expand the circle of partnerships.

  • Hear from bold visionaries about the path forward in Virginia Beach.

This event wasn’t just about mingling—it was about movement building. Whether brand new to politics or already deeply involved, participants shared ideas, built new relationships, and strengthened the foundation of a stronger progressive future here in Virginia Beach.

Throughout the afternoon, important conversations took center stage:

  • The fight to protect our voting rights through the Virginia Beach 10-1 voting system referendum.

  • Issues affecting our immigrant community and how we stand shoulder-to-shoulder in solidarity.

  • The concerns and aspirations of young professionals who represent the future of our city.

  • And most importantly, what’s at stake on the ballot this November.

We are united and focused on victory—for our community and for our future. Together, we’re working hard to elect:

The Next Wave Mixer was proof that when we come together, we can achieve something greater than ourselves. The partnerships formed and the energy sparked that afternoon will ripple forward—fueling stronger campaigns, louder voices, and bigger victories.

This is just the beginning. With growing partnerships and future connections, the next wave is here—and it’s unstoppable.
