Jason Miyares Chooses Trump Over Hungry Virginians — Again

When the Trump administration announced cuts to SNAP benefits that could leave over 850,000 Virginians without critical food assistance, a coalition of attorneys general across the country stepped up to fight back. But Jason Miyares refused to join them — once again proving his loyalty lies not with the people of Virginia, but with Donald Trump and his extremist agenda.

Jay Jones, Democratic nominee for Virginia Attorney General, didn’t mince words:

“Other attorneys general are doing what Jason Miyares refuses to: stand up to Donald Trump to defend Virginians in need. While more than 850,000 Virginians could lose food assistance amid rising costs and mass layoffs, Miyares is siding with Trump – refusing to sue just like the 50 other times he has refused to challenge MAGA extremism.”

This isn’t new behavior for Miyares. Time after time, he’s put party before people, choosing political convenience over common sense. When Virginians are struggling to put food on the table, they don’t need more partisan games — they need a leader with the courage to stand up to Washington extremists.

Republicans know exactly what’s at stake. These SNAP cuts hit working families, children, seniors, and veterans the hardest. Yet Jason Miyares continues to put Trump’s approval ahead of Virginians’ well-being.

“Republicans know exactly what these consequences mean for real people, but Miyares is still putting his loyalty to Trump over Virginians’ health and well-being,” said Jones. “Virginians deserve an Attorney General who will fight for them – not let them go hungry to stay in the president’s good graces.”

Jay Jones is right. Virginians deserve better.
They deserve an Attorney General who fights for families, not photo ops.
Who stands up for hungry children, not political bosses.
Who defends our communities, not Donald Trump’s ego.

Virginia is ready for leadership that cares — and Jay Jones is ready to deliver it.
