Norfolk robbers target students on NSU campus

Norfolk State University students were victims of multiple armed robberies on campus and in surrounding neighborhoods this month, an NSU campus alert said Thursday. The campus police department issued the alert to students, faculty and staff. It did not say how many robberies had taken place, exactly where they happened, or what day they occurred.

RICHMOND Thousands of school bus drivers in Virginia may no longer be required to crawl around under their vehicles by next fall. The state Board of Education agreed Thursday on a proposal to eliminate the requirement that drivers get under the buses and shake the shock absorbers.

Schools on Eastern Shore opening late because of weather

Broadwater Academy will open two hours late because of weather conditions, according to a recorded message on the school's phone system. Northampton County Public Schools also will open two hours late today because of the weather, WVEC-TV was reporting. The National Weather Service was urging drivers to use caution because of snow flurries and blustery conditions.

Va. Tech students post school documents about mass shooting

BLACKSBURG A handful of Virginia Tech students have posted about 6,000 pages of documents online that chronicle the mass shootings on campus. Computer engineering student Justin Harrison led the effort to post the documents released by the university through a Freedom of Information Act request. He says he wanted everyone to be able to read for themselves what happened on April 16, 2007.

Eastern Shore schools opening late because of fog

Dense fog on the Eastern Shore is causing school officials there to delay the start of school. Northampton County Public Schools will open two hours late, WVEC-TV was reporting this morning. A recording on the Broadwater Academy's office phone says that school also will open two hours late. Accomack County Public Schools also reported a two-hour delay.

Nobel laureate in physics will speak Thursday at ODU

NORFOLK John C. Mather, a 2006 Nobel laureate in physics, will talk at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Ted Constant Convocation Center. Mather’s visit is part of Old Dominion University’s Nobel Laureate Public Lecture Series. He will also participate in a question-and-answer session at 2:30 p.m. in the River Rooms of Webb Center. Both sessions are free and open to the public.

He and his wife were resting in their Chesterfield Heights home after taking their 14-year-old son, Calvert, to a tuxedo-fitting for an eighth-grade dance. Cox High hopes many readers will help keep graduates safe

The community has donated a record number of gently used books, CDs, audio books, tapes and DVDs, said sale co-chair Tracy Kunzler. Though she hopes to sell them all, it's not likely.
