2009 Scholarship Winners

The Virginia Beach Democratic Committee is pleased to announce the winners of the VBDC 2009 Scholarship Essay Contest. Twelve entries were submitted and the winners were presented $500.00 checks payable to the college/University they will attend. Please see their information below:

Matthew Trask, Kellam High School, will attend Virginia Tech. Matthew’s essay was on “President Obama’s Opportunity Tax Credit Program”. The Scholarship was presented by Delegate Bobby Mathieson (D-21st), Democratic Delegate to the Virginia State Legislature and Virginia Beach Police Captain John Bell, Democratic Candidate for Virginia Beach Sheriff at the Kellam High School Awards Ceremony.

Kim Prosser, Bayside will attend University of Virginia. Kim’s essay was on “The impact of change resulting from the election of President Barack Obama and plans for the future”. The scholarship was presented by Joe Bouchard (D-83rd), Democratic Delegate to the Virginia State Legislature at the Bayside Awards Ceremony.”

Kayla Jordan, Ocean Lakes will attend the University of Virginia. Kayla’s essay was also on “The impact the election of President Obama has for your views on Government and your plans for the future” The scholarship was presented by Peter Schmidt, Democratic Candidate for the Virginia State Legislature, 82nd District.
